What if Halloween came twice a year? For many Jewish kids around the world celebrating the March holiday Purim, it sort of does. Sure, it’s a religious holiday that honors an ancient and important story. But it’s also one grand party focused on family, and community, and frivolity, and fun.
This week, I check in with a talented baker and wonderfully wise and witty cooking-school colleague of mine, Laura Eisenberg. She talks a little bit about what the tradition has meant for her over the years and shares her favorite decades-old recipe for the delectable cookie that is a symbol of the holiday, hamantaschen.
